Sanders renews call for a superintelligence ban after Altman's cyber remarks

Responding to Sam Altman's suggestion that society may have to tolerate serious cyber incidents from open models, Sen. Bernie Sanders posts: "No, Mr. Altman. We won't accept a severe AI cyberattack in exchange for 'liberty.'"

Altman made the remarks on Politico’s Decoded podcast. In his post Sanders called for pausing advanced AI and permanently banning superintelligence, adding that “74% of the American people don’t trust Big Tech Oligarchs”. Nvidia’s Jensen Huang separately rejected Altman’s framing, saying AI security failures should not be treated as an unavoidable cost.
