SpaceX acquires xAI, folding Grok and Colossus into Musk's rocket company
Elon Musk combines his AI lab with SpaceX in a deal reported to value the merged company at about $1.25 trillion, pitched around building AI data centers in orbit.
Reports put SpaceX at about $1 trillion and xAI at about $250 billion in the all-stock deal. Musk framed the merger around solar-powered data-center satellites, which outside experts say face large technical hurdles. The combined company signed the White House Accord in September 2026 and has since rented capacity at its Memphis clusters to Anthropic and Cursor.
